Building Your Support Team for Health Challenges

Facing a health issue - whether it’s cancer or another serious diagnosis - can quickly feel overwhelming. Between medical appointments, new information, and emotional stress, it’s easy to feel like you’re navigating it all alone.
That’s why building a support team can make such a meaningful difference.
A support team may include healthcare professionals like social workers, patient navigators, nurses, and doctors, as well as family members, friends, caregivers, or community organizations. Each person may play a different role—helping you process information, attend appointments, manage daily responsibilities, or simply offering emotional support.
Support teams are valuable for anyone navigating a health challenge, not just cancer. Having trusted people around you can help reduce stress, improve communication with providers, and make it easier to focus on your health and well-being.
Many people also find support through peer communities—connecting with others who have faced similar experiences.

We Are Steering Bag It Cancer Into the Future
We’re excited to share that the Bag It Cancer Board of Directors has officially approved our 2026–2028 Strategic Plan — a roadmap to guide our work and growth — over the next three years.

Grounded in our mission to educate, support, and empower those impacted by cancer, this plan focuses on expanding access to Bag It Bags, strengthening partnerships, increasing awareness among healthcare providers and the public, and ensuring long-term financial sustainability. This work helps ensure more people receive the information and support they need during one of the most challenging times in their lives.

With clear goals around growth, advocacy, and impact, we’re building toward a future where Bag It is first in mind when a cancer diagnosis is given.

Partner Highlight

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and we’re grateful for partners like COLONTOWN who are helping patients and caregivers navigate colorectal cancer with knowledge and community.

The COLONTOWN Community is a global network of online support groups created by and for colorectal cancer patients and care partners. Designed to help patients better understand their diagnoses, explore treatment options, and connect with others who have been through similar experiences, these moderated groups allow members to share peer-to-peer experiences on every aspect of their disease, including treatment, disease management, and the psychosocial realities of living with colorectal cancer.

In addition to the Community, COLONTOWN offers a range of programs for people affected by colorectal cancer, including educational programs, treatment navigation resources, evidence-based learning materials, and patient-led research initiatives that help patients and caregivers better understand their options and participate more fully in their care. Find these resources on COLONTOWN University.

Their work helps ensure that no one facing colorectal cancer has to navigate it alone.

At Bag It, we believe in the power of community and education, and we’re proud to highlight organizations like COLONTOWN that are making a meaningful difference.
