Dear Friends,
The arrival of autumn invites us to pause and reflect. As the evenings draw in and the familiar rhythm of the new school year returns, we look back on a long, hot summer.
In this newsletter, I’m delighted to share Claire & Gabriella's Story showing how Welcare used techniques from the Domestic Abuse Recovery Toolkit to support a mother and daughter as they began to recover from the trauma of long-term domestic abuse and coercive control. Alongside emotional support, the family also received practical help, including a generous food box from Feed London. We are now entering our fourth year of partnership with Feed London, and I am incredibly grateful to our fantastic staff team, who delivered food boxes across South London on a scorching day in July. Their commitment to making sure families receive support when they need it most is hugely appreciated. It has also been a busy summer in East Surrey. You can read about our successful Family Picnics in the Park as well as the joint recognition of two of our valued volunteers, Christina and Mark Turner, whose dedication and generosity continue to make a big difference to the Redhill centre. We have also experienced mixed emotions as we said goodbye to three members of our East Surrey team. We are very grateful for everything they have contributed through their hard work and compassion and for the impact they have made to the lives of hundreds of families. This newsletter also includes a special tribute to our Greenwich Friends, whose longstanding dedication and support continue to make a lasting difference to children and families across Southeast London.
We have been encouraged, too, by funding awards from the Garfield Weston and Wates Foundation. I’m pleased to give you advance notice of the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2026, which runs from 1–8 December. Thanks to a generous pledge from Horley Lions Club we can take part in this year’s campaign. Donations to our appeal made during the appeal week will be match funded, providing a great opportunity to double the impact of gifts in the run up to Christmas. Your continued encouragement, support and generosity enable Welcare staff to be there for children and families at some of the most difficult moments in their lives offering the emotional and practical support they need to build more secure futures.
Best wishes,
Anna Khan,
Welcare CEO
