Winter is on the way!

Fall colours on the CVWMA have been absolutely breathtaking!  Sadly, they are slowly fading as we move towards the shorter days of winter.  Although we've had a couple of minor snowfalls, we are still waiting for that morning when we awake to find the snow is here to stay for a few months.  For many outdoor enthusiasts, that prospect is exciting...for others, maybe not so much!

Barn Swallow Shelter
For those who have noticed the new small structure in Corn Creek Marsh, across from the Visitor Centre, and wondered what it might be...it is an alternative nesting structure for Barn Swallows! In preparation for the eventual demolition of the “Old Interpretive Centre”, we had this structure built with hopes that Barn Swallows will colonize it. Individuals of this species apparently select their nesting location in late summer, before their migration to the south. The building structure has been maximized to provide nesting spaces for several pairs...we are crossing our fingers they will use it promptly! People are welcome to have a peek through the windows, but we would like people to remain outside of the structure.
 
 
Snow Geese
This is one flock of Snow Geese that were seen around the valley last week.  There may have been more than one flock!
