July 2025 Newsletter

At Bow Valley Palliative, our mission is to provide compassionate, individualized palliative care and grief support to individuals and families throughout the Bow Valley.
As you will have already seen, we are excited to announce our new name Bow Valley Palliative and our bold new brand and logo!

2026 will be our 10th anniversary of becoming a charity and it will be a celebration of all that we have achieved so far and our vision for the future. The charity will remain the same, but we will be known as Bow Valley Palliative in our communications and how we refer to ourselves.

Our Pals for Palliative celebration event on June 22nd was a great place to launch our new brand and reveal more about our new building as well as thank and recognize our fundraisers. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet some of our supporters, share our work and answer questions about all things Bow Valley Palliative.

While so many things take a break over the summer, our work at Bow Valley Palliative continues. Our staff and volunteers will remain available to meet the needs of our community and support those navigating life changing diagnoses, grief and bereavement. Although our name has changed, what we do has not. Thank you to all of you who make this possible through donations of time and funds.
The Centre for Palliative Care & Hospice
At the celebration event on June 22nd, we were able to not only share the latest renderings of the inside and outside of our new Centre, but also speak to how the space will be used. The planning has taken into consideration the variety of needs of the people that will enter through our doors, ensuring versatility in our spaces and layout.

From the positioning of the windows in the resident rooms to ensure that the views can be appreciated from the bed and elsewhere in the room, to the provision of refreshments, baked goods and soup for our visitors, caregivers and families, so much thought has gone into the design. We have also given consideration to the future.

Our Centre will include 8 resident rooms but with our growing and ageing population, we have made sure to plan for additional space to be added for when it is needed.

Another question that has arisen is in respect of the funds already raised towards the building. These funds are viewed as restricted, only to be used towards the purpose for what they were given. While some expenses are being incurred currently for architects and building planning, the remaining funds are invested until such time as they are needed. Which of course we hope will be very soon indeed! Thank you to everyone for your support through these challenging times and for your commitment to make this Vision a reality. We could not do it without you!
Grab your clubs and meet us on the green for a great cause to raise awareness about palliative and grief care in the Bow Valley.

Welcome New Board Members
Thank You!
We are sincerely grateful to the Banff Canmore Foundation for supporting our Compassionate Companions program through the 2025 Mental Health and Wellbeing Grant.

This program provides trained volunteer support for individuals receiving palliative care, while also offering respite to their caregivers and meaningful grief companioning for those navigating loss.

Our Compassionate Companions walk alongside community members with empathy, presence, and understanding—making a lasting impact in some of life’s most tender moments.

Thank you to the Banff Canmore Foundation for helping us continue this meaningful work.
