Every Monday after chapel, Chaplain Anne Grizzle visits each cottage for a discipleship time. At the beginning of Lent, everyone considered the opportunity to observe a holy Lent by pondering what they might give up and what they might take on. Students came up with some creative ideas. While some gave up sweet tea or desserts, others are working to give up angry outbursts, teasing friends, or procrastination. All students are reading the gospel of Mark during this semester,  but some students took on some personal spiritual goals of additional Bible reading such as a Proverb a day, Psalms, or even all four gospels. Other students decided to make a personal goal of praying each evening, adding a morning prayer for each day, or working to improve family relationships. Of course, like all who seek to use Lent as a time to grow spiritually, the students have had some ups and downs in their efforts. Cottage discipleship time gives them the chance to reflect and take each new day as an opportunity to give Lenten goals another try. This requires always asking God for strength and grace. It is good to have the community of faith in the cottage to remind and encourage everyone as they seek to grow with God.
