A Note from Chaplain Anne Grizzle:
Following The Way of Love
Chaplain Anne Grizzle
After hearing Bishop Michael Curry's call to Jesus' way of love, Boys Home chapel topics have been focusing on pursuing His way of love using the following: teach, learn, pray, worship, and rest. Scriptural examples are mixed with personal stories to help bring each practice to life.
Mondays after chapel, each cottage has the opportunity to participate in a discipleship group with Pastor Anne. Scriptures for the day are then read and discussed. The themes that the students have discussed so far are turn and learn.
Turn: Jesus' call of ordinary fisherman, tax collectors, and sinners were highlighted as students considered Jesus' call to them to turn to God. Students each wrote a word or drew a picture illustrating how they would describe their own turning to God.
Learn: As a part of learning, each of the boys have been challenged to read the gospel of Mark this semester. While they are encouraged to learn the discipline of personal Bible study, students meet by cottage weekly with Pastor Anne to discuss highlights and questions from their reading. They also use this time to pray for one another.
One highlight was when one of the Boys Home Ambassadors, Frank, preached from Psalm 1 in a chapel session that focused on learning. Frank related to the audience in fun and challenging ways, told stories from his own life like coming from Liberia and the recent loss of his grandmother. All of these examples were to illustrate the call to delight in the law of the Lord.
