A Note from Pastor Anne Grizzle
Pastor Anne Grizzle
Easter is a season of fifty days to celebrate a risen Christ. A fun evening at the chapel included having the students organized by the cottage they live in act out the various appearances of Jesus after his rising. These included an angel at the gravesite, disciples in a locked room with Jesus suddenly appearing, and fishing with no luck and then great luck. The students are trying to pay attention to the ways in which our risen Lord shows up amidst our ordinary days in quiet and powerful ways.
Three students and one houseparent, who happened to all be from Ethiopia, provided great illustrations on the Sunday when the readings included the story of Phillip being called to a deserted highway where he met the Ethiopian eunuch. They read the readings, helped with the sermon, and added a little drumming to illustrate the long faithful history of Christian witness in that country since that early story.
May is the month of the annual awards banquet at Boys Home. The amazing progress and hard work of the students in academics, sports, spiritual life, equine, and community service are highlighted. Special fun came when two students received new bikes for their outstanding performance in reading. Senior awards showed the rewards that come to those who perisist and complete their stay with excellence.
Pentecost was a special day of celebration. Several students read the gospel in their native languages to illustrate the Acts story of the spirit giving witness in many languages. Two boys chose to be baptized! One student was baptized at Faith Baptist in Covington and the second student was baptized at the creek at Boys Home. Everyone in attendance enjoyed a celebratory lunch in the dining hall after the exciting event.
