'I want to serve my indigenous community in Panama'

Jocabed SolanoWe were privileged to meet Jocabed Solano, a Langham Preaching member in Panama, on last month's Langham Live zoom calls.

She is providing crucial support and encouragement to indigenous 'Guna' pastors on the many islands of Panama. These pastors are often alone and unpaid, so see Langham Preaching training and Preaching Clubs as lifelines to their ministry.

Jocabed has also started a PhD as a Langham Scholar, and is hoping her research will serve her indigenous community in Panama.

Read the whole story, and see a photo of Jocabed meeting Nicola Sturgeon at COP26 last year! You can also watch a video of Jocabed's points for prayer.

'The God that The Poor Seek'
The God That The Poor Seek
Earlier this year, Langham published 'The God That the Poor Seek', by Rupen Das. The book is filled with practical insights for those ministering to the world’s poor in contexts of missions, development, or local outreach. He shares stories from Syrian refugees and Indian slum dwellers, while seeking to understand what attracts the marginalised to the Gospel. On Langham Publishing's blog Rupen - who is currently Executive Director of the Canadian Bible Society - explains the rationale behind his book.

Dear

Peace, or at least a Settlement with Justice – a cry heard from the Ukraine and from various UK industrial disputes. Just as we were all starting to rejoice that it’s become possible to meet face-to-face post Covid, it becomes almost impossible to get to some places to meet – what with war, visa issues and transport strikes. However, we hope and pray that peace and settlements with justice become possible. Perhaps we appreciate that bit more what Jesus accomplished on the Cross as He demonstrated sacrificial love and mercy even as justice was kept intact. The price continues to be costly and we keep holding all involved in such disputes, not least those subject to the horror of hostile invasion, including those in our Langham family working so sacrificially in Ukraine, in our thoughts and prayers. It is encouraging to note that Langham Scholars and our Langham Preaching leadership team have both managed meetings which had been postponed for about three years. Also, the Lord willing, we will be ‘live’ at Keswick and hoping to meet any of you heading there for the Convention – do please make yourself known at our stall! Thank you so much for the encouragement of your support, and here’s to our next face-to-face…

God bless,
Simon Foulds
