October 2025 Newsletter

At Bow Valley Palliative, our mission is to provide compassionate, individualized palliative care and grief support to individuals and families throughout the Bow Valley.
A note from our CEO:

We are well and truly in Larch season! How I love the brisk mornings, sunny warm days with soft light, and the autumnal chill of the evenings. It brings home to me how very fortunate we are to live where we do, surrounded by such beauty and an incredible community. Is it any wonder that even when faced with a life-changing diagnosis, experiencing grief or loss, remaining here in the Bow Valley, the place where we live, is one of our top priorities.

We are here to support every one of you, when you need us, closer to home.

As we move into Fall, we are launching our Annual Appeal, your opportunity to support our day-to-day work in the Bow Valley, to ensure that we can meet the needs of those who come to us, barrier free. Be part of our compassionate community and consider making a donation today. Together, we can make sure that dignity, compassion, and connection are here for everyone, when they need it most.

The Centre for Palliative Care & Hospice
After years of waiting and stopping and starting, things with the land and building are progressing quickly!

The subdivision endorsement and the subsequent generous gift of the land is on track, with the transfer of land from Jan and Bernie McCaffery to Bow Valley Palliative set to happen in the next 1-2 months.  This is significant, and a clear indication that things are happening!

For the building, permit submissions are being finalized, and planning is in place to begin the contract tender process by the end of the year. Led by CANA, our construction manager, this is a great way to engage our local construction trades to be part of this exciting future, from paid work and materials to those that may be gifted in kind.
AN UPDATE TO GOLF FOR HOSPICE 2026:

The Eighth Annual GOLF FOR HOSPICE fundraising tournament will take place now on THURSDAY AUGUST 13, 2026, at the spectacular Stewart Creek Golf & Country Club. Please save the date and update your calendars. We look forward to another year of fun 😊

You are the reason we
can do what we do!

Thank you to Sandra and Rob Malach who shared this lovely photo of their day at Lake Louise! Sandra won the canoe rental prize from our Canmore Mountain Market booth draw from back in June.

We are out and about throughout the Bow Valley interacting with our
neighbours in fun ways!

Next, we are headed to the Lake Louise Wellness Fair on October 28 at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.

Hope to see you there!

Join Our Team!
As we say farewell to Michele Le Blanc who returns to the West Coast, we have taken the opportunity to look at how we can best support our clients, volunteers, and Bow Valley Community. We are pleased to welcome Carol Manson-McLeod and Jennifer Douglas to the team, supporting Hyo-jung Jwa in her role as Client Coordinator, providing cover when needed.

To help us plan for the future, Bill Harder will move to a more strategic role, focusing on the programs and services we provide to our community, including what we will offer in our new building. His ideas and creativity will be instrumental in ensuring that our programs are relevant and continue to be delivered with dignity, comfort, and excellence.

To complete our Program Team, we are now looking for a Program Manager.

Memory Cafés

These events are for folks living with dementia and their caregivers.

They include a music activity for the person living with dementia followed by a light lunch. Caregivers gather in a separate space to relax, learn about resources and network with other caregivers. These events are possible thanks to partnerships with FCSS, Bow Valley Palliative, Town of Canmore, Town of Banff, and grant funding from the Connecting People and Community for Living Well Group.
