September 2025 Newsletter

At Bow Valley Palliative, our mission is to provide compassionate, individualized palliative care and grief support to individuals and families throughout the Bow Valley.
Well it might not have started great, but these recent weeks of summer have really made up for it! This is also true for us here at Bow Valley Palliative. Our main fundraising event, Golf for Hospice, occurred in August. This was our 7th year of hosting and the energy, enthusiasm and fun made it feel like our first! What a great group of golfers we had come out to enjoy the beautiful course at Stewart Creek Golf and Country Club (check out the photos below) and a huge thanks  to our sponsors and patrons who made this day so special along with all the team at Stewart Creek.  It wasn’t all about golf, fun and sun (although that helped), it was also about raising funds to support the work of Bow Valley Palliative in our community. Once again we surpassed our expectations, raising $100,000 to benefit our clients and their families through a life changing diagnosis and support in grief.

The Golf for Hospice event was also a great opportunity to update everyone on the progress being made with the Centre project. As is often the case, things go slowly until they don’t, then its hard to keep up! I was so pleased to be able to announce progress on the land as well as share the renderings of the building at the reception. Check out the update below, to find out more.

The Centre for Palliative Care & Hospice
August has been a busy month for the building project. As most of you are aware, the development of our Centre has been in two parts.

The first is the planning for our building. We have completed the construction and architectural plans for the Centre and are finalizing the two outstanding items which will be forwarded to the Town of Canmore by the end of this week. You can see images of what our space will look like on our website and we are happy to walk you through the space and our plans for the activities that will take place there.

The second part is the land. The land for our Centre is part of a subdivision proposed by Jan and Bernie McCaffery.  I am delighted to say that the remaining conditions for the subdivision approval are largely complete and we anticipate the transfer of ownership of the land within the next 2-3 months. We are truly at a monumental point in realizing our Vision!

The Town has informed us that they will treat this project as a priority and provided we ensure the outstanding items are provided quickly, subdivision and permitting will be completed by the Fall.

To build and operate the Centre in its initial years, we need to raise $25 million. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’ve already raised 30% of that goal, but we need to keep the momentum going and to have the funds available as we begin construction. We have a unique opportunity to give our community the care it deserves and leave a legacy for generations to come. The sooner we reach our goal, the sooner we can open the doors to the Centre.

Your support, whether through donations, connections or simply sharing our story, will help us make this a reality.

Thank You!
