July 2026 Newsletter

At Bow Valley Palliative, our mission is to provide compassionate, individualized palliative care and grief support to individuals and families throughout the Bow Valley.
A Note From Our CEO

It's difficult to believe that we are already in July! The last month has flown by and not without its challenges thanks to Mother Nature.

Planning for our annual golf event, Golf for Hospice 2026, is well underway and registrations are coming in quickly. We are a week earlier this year, with our event taking place once again at the Stewart Creek Golf and Country Club but this time, on August 13.

We still have a few remaining opportunities for sponsorships and patron donations for those of you that are interested. This year’s event promises to be a celebration as our development permit is approved and the gift of land is completed.

And there is more exciting news! With a growing team and need for supports in the community, Bow Valley Palliative will be moving from e=mc2 offices on Railway Avenue to a new location! From July 14th, you can find us at Unit 202, 1205 Bow Valley Trail, Canmore, in the Rocky Mountain Professional Centre. We are excited to welcome you to our new space and will be holding an Open House for anyone who wants to drop by! Details are below.

Tuesday July 14th
2:30pm - 4:30pm
Unit 202 1205 Bow Valley Tail Canmore
*In the Rocky Mountain Professional Centre*

We're so excited to be in the final stages of moving into our new Bow Valley Palliative home.

Our previous office has been the backdrop for countless conversations, big ideas, quiet moments, and unwavering support. We will always be grateful for the space that carried us through those years. As we turn the page to this next chapter, we've tried to create more than just an office. We wanted a place that feels like a retreat. A space grounded in comfort, dignity, kindness, and connection. A place where conversations matter, collaboration comes naturally, and everyone who walks through the door feels welcome.

Every member of our team has helped shape this space in their own unique way, and that love is reflected in every corner. From our Bow Valley-inspired meeting rooms and pops of brand colour, to the greenery, artwork, and our favourite little Snug Corner (a spot so cozy you'll want to curl up with a warm drink and stay awhile), this space truly feels like us.

This is only the beginning. In the coming weeks, we'll also have the opportunity to thank the many incredible people, businesses, and community partners who helped bring this dream to life. Until then, we're simply grateful, excited, and looking forward to filling these walls with the same compassion, laughter, and purpose that have always defined Bow Valley Palliative. 💛

Our vision is becoming a reality and we are so excited to be one step closer to opening our doors and providing care and supports at the new centre.

The Pestell Centre for Compassionate Care continues to advance towards a fall construction start. The Development Permit has been fully approved, and no appeals were received by the Town of Canmore. The next steps are to finalize a development agreement with the Town and submit the plans for the Building Permit. CANA, the general contractor, will begin work on the site in September once the subdivision work is sufficiently advanced. Provided everything goes according to schedule, our community will begin to see the new centre take shape in early 2027!

Did You Know...

We have 77 active volunteers out and about across the Bow Valley!

This spring we welcomed a cohort of 7 new volunteers at our in-person volunteer training. These volunteers will be matched and connected with palliative and grief clients along with their families.  Without our volunteers Bow Valley Palliative could not offer local programs that provide no-cost care to our neighbours in need.

We have 3 main program areas:
ü  Volunteer Companion Program for those living with a life-changing illness
ü   Grief Support
ü   Learning Opportunities & Events

Bill, BVP’s Hospice Program Coordinator, and his wife Anna chat with Dr. Hsien PHD and Dr. Sammy MD from the waitingroomrevolution.com about death binders, funeral pre-planning, and the village that holds them, showing what it looks like to grieve as you go and still embrace joy. The episode also shares with a powerful AI-generated love song Bill created for Anna, “Live Till She Dies,” a musical legacy of their life on the land and their commitment to living fully to the end.

Thank You BOWDA & Bow Valley Chamber of Commerce!

Thank you BOWDA and the Bow Valley Chamber of Commerce for hosting UnGolfed in June. It was great to see familiar faces and connect with people from so many different businesses in the community while enjoying a fun event!
