August 2025 Newsletter

At Bow Valley Palliative, our mission is to provide compassionate, individualized palliative care and grief support to individuals and families throughout the Bow Valley.
Planning for our Centre is a little like our Bow Valley weather- unpredictable and rollercoaster of ups and downs! We are determined though, we believe in the vision and the growing needs and demands of our community. Finally we are seeing that the focus, passion, and determination of the landowners, the McCaffery family, and Bow Valley Palliative is beginning to see results.

August is always a month we look forward to as it is our Golf for Hospice Event.  It’s a great time to catch up with donors and supporters, enjoy some golf at the beautiful Stewart Creek Golf and Country Club and raise much-needed funds to support our work in the Bow Valley. Looking forward to seeing some of you on the 21st!
The Centre for Palliative Care & Hospice
We have been progressing on developing plans for our new Centre. As we draw closer to completion of these steps, we are now moving to a final estimate of costs before going out to tender.  Over the last two years (and in some cases even earlier), we have developed a number of different versions that reflect changing build requirements, health care specifications and requirements from the Town.

We have developed a number of budgets based on our plans, many increasing as we see the cost of labour and supplies rise and based on adjustments with what and how we are building. Budgetary reviews demonstrate our leadership on fiscal responsibility, and have not always been negative in their focus. For example, one budget adjustment at the start of this year provided an opportunity to validate and improve the future functionality of the space. As we near the end of the planning phase, we are eager to finalize contracts and begin work.

Our Centre for Palliative Care and Hospice will be there to support everyone in the Bow Valley community. Whether it is following a diagnosis of a life-changing illness for you or your loved one, navigating the journey to end of life or experiencing grief and bereavement, we will be there to support us all. The need is urgent, ongoing and real - we are eager to get rolling on building our new space.
Thank you to everyone who dropped by to visit our booth at the Canmore Folk Festival! We had an estimated 200+ conversations which was a great initiative to forward and advance the conversation about awareness of our work and future aspirations. Special thanks to our volunteers for the weekend - Doreen, Heather, Jackie B, Maryann, Jackie L, and Meg.
Golf for Hospice sponsorship opportunities are still available!
You are the reason we
can do what we do!
Thank you for your trust and support.
It's never to late to GIVE WHERE YOU LIVE.

Please consider supporting our Bow Valley family, friends, and neighbours with a donation to help provide palliative care and grief support services and programs when they need it most.
Thank You!
Special thanks to the Town of Banff for providing Bow Valley Palliative volunteer costs to support Banff residents.

Did you know... more than 7.8 million Canadians over the age of 15 provide approximately 20 hours a week of unpaid care.* Caregivers make a difference in the lives of many people across the country by providing personal care, physical and/or emotional support to those in need.

Join us for a short training session geared to caregivers and care partners. In this session we will learn about how caregiver fatigue and empathic strain affect the health and well-being of care-partners. We will also cover strategies to manage stress and to be aware of one’s wellness tank and monitor its level.
