New Programs and Events for 2015
 
The Wildlife Centre opens for the season on May 9th.  We are busy getting programs developed and organized! 
 
School Programs are now available to book (and are booking fast!).  For more information on the programs and how to book, please click here.
 
Jr. Naturalist summer science camp dates are available and you can now book your little adventurer in!  For more details, please click here.
 
Look out for our program guide - coming to you in the mail if you live between Yahk and Riondel!  We have a great roster of special events and programs.  Guides will also be available at the Home and Garden Show, Chamber of Commerce and other locations by the end of the month.
 
Also, check out the various planned events taking place so far this season on our website.  Check back regularly as we will be adding more as the season progresses!
 
Permits for Hunting, Fishing and Boat Storage

If you plan on hunting and/or fishing at the CVWMA, you will need to acquire a permit.  This permit is in addition to your provincial licences.  Permits can be obtained online through our website or in person at the Administration Office or Wildlife Interpretation Centre when open.
 
Also, if you are interested in storing your boat at Duck Lake Sirdar then you need to get a permit to do so.  Obtain these as per above.
 
Wildlife and Nature Moments

When I interview candidates for the seasonal Wetland Naturalist positions at the CVWMA, I get them to come prepared to share a wildlife or nature moment that they have experienced. I love this question because of the amazing answers I get!
 
I think we all have at least one, some of us more, nature moments that stand out in our memories. Sometimes, we are not even aware of the impact or presence they have in our minds until we stop and reflect.
 
A fond nature related memory that always jumps out in my mind is digging for clams and harvesting oysters on beaches near my home town of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island when I was a kid. Gumboots, shovels and buckets, check!

CV Bird Festival
Wildlife Centre OPENS for the season on Saturday, May 9th.  This coincides with the 3rd Annual Creston Valley Bird Festival!

Duck Lake Cross Dyke is Now OPEN to Vehicle Traffic
 
The gate at the southeast end of the cross dyke at Duck Lake is now open, allowing vehicle traffic on the dyke.  We have been keeping a close eye on the dyke conditions over the past weeks.  Wet weather conditions caused the dyke to remain soft and saturated and therefore not suitable for vehicle traffic.  We feel that it has now dried out enough to allow for vehicle traffic without causing unnecessary damage to the dyke itself.  We appreciate everyones patience while we waited for condidtions to improve.
