August 2026 Newsletter

At Bow Valley Palliative, our mission is to provide compassionate, individualized palliative care and grief support to individuals and families throughout the Bow Valley.
A Note From Our CEO

At BVP, we always talk about the importance of focusing on life, living well and doing what is important to you. While we discuss this in the context of a life-changing diagnosis, it remains true for us all at any stage of life. In that spirit, I am sharing the news that, after four incredible years serving as CEO of Bow Valley Palliative, and a long and rewarding career, I will be retiring later this fall.

It’s the right time. It’s a very exciting season for Bow Valley Palliative, and it’s an honour to support a new leader to take the organization forward through continued transformation.

Over the past four years, we have made excellent progress by building a strong foundation, cultivating relationships and nurturing a talented, committed team. We are making great strides on the Pestell Centre for Compassionate Care, and we anticipate breaking ground later this fall.

My last day as CEO will be Thursday, September 24, 2026. While I will enjoy the rewards of retirement, I will continue to be part of the community and support the organization.

In the meantime, there’s more work to be done! I look forward to seeing many of you at Golf for Hospice on August 13th and in the community over the coming months.

We Have Moved!

Thank you to everyone that joined us on July 14th for our new office open house. It was great to see familiar faces and meet some new friends too! Our office is now located at Unit 202 - 1205 Bow Valley Trail in Canmore at the Rocky Mountain Professional Centre.

Cody (CANA) Rosemary (BVP Board Member) Rob (Owners Rep) prepare for a site visit earlier this month with donors on the land of the Pestell Centre for Compassionate Care.
Momentum and excitement are building for The Pestell Centre for Compassionate Care! With the development permit approved, we are now moving towards final approvals to build on the land generously donated by Jan and Bernie McCaffery. We had the pleasure of welcoming several donors and community members for a tour of the site earlier in July. Our Owner’s Representative, Rob Copeland and CANA Construction Manager, Cody Pearson shared plans for the Centre and talked about our vision for this beautiful and welcoming space. We are excited to be planning a groundbreaking this fall, which will mark an important milestone in bringing this much-needed community resource to the Bow Valley.

As we move towards this next phase, we are focusing our fundraising efforts on diversification of funds and raising awareness of the need in the community. In addition to pursuing capital grant opportunities, we are inviting businesses, community members and partners to hear more about the work we are doing and the vision for this transformational project. Every contribution helps build a place of compassion, dignity and care for individuals and families in our community.

Community support will be essential to the success of this project. Whether through financial contributions, sponsorships, advocacy or helping us share our vision, every act of support strengthens our ability to create a lasting legacy of compassionate care.
