This month at the Little Compton Community Center!

Hello Neighbor,
Today is Giving Tuesday, the global day of giving, and we are reaching out because you understand the power of community.
At the Little Compton Community Center, we don't just host events. We provide a constant, reliable home for our neighbors. We are here through every season, ensuring no senior in our community is left hungry, no neighbor is left isolated, and no family is left without quality, affordable childcare.

What Your Gift Achieves

Your Giving Tuesday donation directly powers the vital services we provide:
  • Feeding Our Seniors: With our most recent numbers, we are on track to serve over 11,500 senior meals this year due to the recent expansion of our Senior Lunch Program. Your donation puts a nutritious meal on the table for a neighbor in need of nourishment, be it nutritional or social-emotional.
  • Supporting Working Families: We provide 50 weeks of reliable, affordable childcare each year, using a sliding scale tuition to ensure that every child and every working caregiver gets the support they deserve.
  • Building Connection: Your support funds the low-barrier, fun, and enriching programs—from our Theatre Class to our community gatherings—that fight isolation and keep our small town connected.
Will you make a tax-deductible gift to help support our mission of providing educational, recreational, social and cultural enrichment to our community?
Thank you for helping us keep the lights on and the doors open. We are profoundly grateful for your partnership, today and always.
Please read on for all of our December happenings, and some sneak peeks of what’s to come in 2026! Don’t forget to join us for Cabin Fever Friday where we will offer an opportunity for community building each and every Friday, January through April!
Kindly,
Amy Mooney, Executive Director

Start Saving Styrofoam
Hold the foam! On Saturday, January 10, 2026, the Little Compton Garden Club will host a Styrofoam Recycling Day at St. Andrew’s Church at 182 Willow Avenue in Little Compton. Garden club members will be on hand from 9:00 a.m. to noon to accept your Styrofoam.
Start saving blocks of hard, white Styrofoam (no labels or tape) used for protective packing, including computers, TVs, other electronics, and breakable items. We'll also accept Styrofoam coolers and ice chests; rinsed Styrofoam coffee cups, to-go food containers, meat trays, egg cartons, and other Styrofoam products with the #6 recycling triangle. Packing peanuts or spongy foam that don't snap when you try to break them will NOT be accepted.
Styrofoam is a persistent pollutant potentially harmful to human health. It contributes to widespread litter and steals landfill space because it does not degrade over time. Start storing used Styrofoam in (preferably) clear plastic bags, and take advantage of this opportunity to recycle your holiday waste. This is part of the Little Compton Garden Club's efforts to keep undesirable items out of the town's landfill.
Little Compton Garden Club members will deliver the Styrofoam to Insulation Technology in Bridgewater MA, where it is recycled into insulation. Anyone, anytime, can drop off Styrofoam at this facility conveniently located on the way to Boston, just two minutes off of Route 24 on the Route 104 East exit to Bridgewater.

West Place Animal Sanctuary Wins Land Rover's Defender Service Awards
Tiverton's West Place Animal Sanctuary has been named the 2025 Defender Service Awards winner in the Honorees category, earning the top honor among U.S. and Canadian finalists. The Rhode Island nonprofit dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and responsible care of farm animals secured the award following a 17-day public voting campaign in October. The win solidifies West Place’s position among international nonprofit organizations that go above and beyond to serve their communities and make meaningful, lasting change.
Wendy Taylor, founder and executive director of West Place Animal Sanctuary, took the stage at Destination Defender in Temecula, CA, to accept the award on behalf of the organization she created more than 18 years ago. When asked about this prestigious achievement, Taylor said, “This is an incredible honor and our deepest thanks go to Defender, presenting sponsor Chase, and Honorees category sponsor S&P Global. West Place is profoundly appreciative and grateful for our supporters in the community. Their daily votes are what finally propelled us to the top. Thank you!”
Taylor continues, “West Place is a small, but mighty, nonprofit in the smallest state in the nation. Yet we were able to rally support throughout the Ocean State and beyond to show the world what Rhode Islanders are all about. This is a shared honor with our compassionate community.”
