August 2015
Summer is in full swing!  The temperature has been hot and water levels are low, but still lots of wildlife to see, trails to explore and canoe tours to join!  We have some great events in August at the Wildlife Centre, so please join us (see below).

Bailey Bridge at Summit Creek Closed for Maintenance
 
The Bailey Bridge at Summit Creek is going to be closed for maintenance and repairs from August 4th to 12th.  Pedestrian and vehicle access will not be available at this time, so access to the Leach Lake area dyke trails via the bridge will be closed.

August Events at the Wildlife Centre

Article ImageIn August, we are hosting another movie night at the Centre theatre on Thursday August 13th where we will screen a fun nature related movie (with popcorn of course!).  Cost is $2 per person.
 
Another fun event on the agenda this summer is a Sunrise Paddle, offered on Friday August 7th and 21st from 7am to 9am, where you will glide through the ponds on canoe with a Naturalist, enjoying the serenity and views.  This event is free for members or $12.  To join us, please register by calling (250) 402 6908.
 
We also offer one-hour long guided canoe tours daily departing at 9:30, 10:30, 1 and 2.  These are a great way to see the sights and sounds of the wetland, so bring your friends and family!
 
And…if you have a teen aged 14-16 at home this summer that is wondering what to do…we have a Teen Steward Program in August that they can take part in.  Contact us for details and to register (250 402 6908).

Wildlife Centre Hours
 
We are open 7 days a week in August from 9 am to 4pm.
 
Guided canoe tours are avaialble when open at 9:30, 10:30, 1 and 2.  Call us to book at (250) 402 6908 to ensure there is space available!
 
Weed Pull on August 10th
 
The Central Kootenay Invasive Species Society and VAST Resource Solutions are teaming up to do a weed pull on August 10th from 5:30-7pm.  The pull will target invasive species along the side of West Creston Rd that are growing in turtle nesting habitat.
 
If interested in participating, please meet at the Wildlife Centre parking lot at 530pm.

Fishing Permits
 
If you are fishing on Duck Lake or other waterways in the CVWMA, you need to purchase a permit from the CVWMA.  They can be obtained online or in person at the Administration Building or Wildlife Centre.
